The neck as a treatment area
The neck has excellent blood supply — the major vessels that feed the brain run through this area. This carries no risk during laser treatment (the laser does not interact with haemoglobin), but it does offer a practical advantage: efficient blood and lymphatic circulation means the immune system can clear shattered pigment particles effectively between sessions. Compared with areas far from the heart — such as feet or hands — the neck is physiologically well positioned for tattoo removal.
The skin of the neck is delicate and more touch-sensitive than on the torso. We calibrate treatment parameters accordingly to achieve effective results without over-irritating the skin. The neck is also visible every day — which is often the main reason people want the tattoo fully removed rather than just faded.
Nape, sides and front of the neck
The nape (back of the neck) has slightly thicker skin than the front and sides. Tattoos in this area — frequently chosen behind the ear, at the base of the skull or centre of the nape — typically respond well to removal. The behind-the-ear area is a particularly popular choice for those who want a tattoo hidden when hair is down and visible when it's up. Removal proceeds in a standard way.
The sides of the neck — around the jugular — have thin, well-vascularised skin. Cosmetic outcomes are typically very good. The front of the neck is a more sensitive area with thin and delicate skin; we use carefully calibrated parameters here.

How many sessions does neck tattoo removal take
The neck falls within the standard range of 8–12 sessions spaced around 8 weeks apart for typical black or grey tattoos. Coloured or densely saturated tattoos may require additional sessions, as in any other location.
Key variables include the age of the tattoo (older ones clear more easily), colour, ink layer thickness and the individual skin response. We draw up a detailed plan after looking at the tattoo at the consultation. More on the factors that determine the process in the guide on how many sessions tattoo removal takes, and a practical overview in the guide on how to remove a tattoo.

Aftercare after a neck treatment session
After each session, avoid clothing and accessories that rub against the treated area — tight collars, scarves, high zip-up tops. For the first few days after a session, opt for loose, soft fabrics or simply leave the neck uncovered. Mechanical friction slows healing.
Sun protection is mandatory throughout the entire course of treatment. The neck is exposed to sunlight every time you go outdoors — apply SPF 50+ every day and avoid intense sun exposure during the treatment period.
Neck sessions carry no particular complications compared with other areas — healing proceeds in much the same way as at other visible locations. To have your specific tattoo assessed, book a free consultation. Pricing is listed on the price page.
