How many months ahead to start
The short answer: for full removal it's best to start 12–18 months before the wedding. That's not over-caution but the real time the body needs to clear the pigment between sessions. The earlier, the calmer — you then have a buffer for any rescheduling and for the skin to heal fully.
The maths of sessions — why it's a year and more
Fully removing a professional tattoo usually takes 8–12 sessions spaced about 8 weeks apart. The gap is necessary: after each session the body spends weeks clearing the shattered pigment, and the skin must recover before the next treatment. Multiplied out, that's over a year of work. We break down the details in our guide how many sessions tattoo removal takes.
- 8–12 sessions × about 8 weeks apart = more than 12 months.
- Plus a buffer for rescheduling and healing = 12–18 months before the wedding.
- Less time? The realistic goal becomes significant fading, not full removal.
When there's less time before the wedding
If you don't have a year and a half, all is not lost. The goal can then be significant fading rather than full removal — so the tattoo is easy to mask with foundation, jewellery or the cut of the outfit. A faded tattoo is far simpler to hide in photos than a fresh, heavily saturated one. A partial fade usually needs fewer sessions than full removal to zero.
Don't schedule the last session right before the date
An important detail: don't plan the last session for the last minute before the wedding. After treatment the skin needs time to settle — it may be reddened, slightly swollen or still healing. Best to schedule the final treatment so there are a few weeks before the date for the skin to heal fully and even out.

How to build the plan
The surest way is to count back from the wedding date — the same logic we use for tattoos and work. At the free consultation we'll assess the tattoo, decide whether full removal or fading is realistic, and lay out a schedule so the last session falls with a safe buffer before the date.
The best first step is to book a free consultation as early as possible — time is the key ingredient here.
